'Tis the Season?

I'm depressed. It's been creeping up on me for days now, and today I found myself teary for no immediate reason. On the one hand, it's completely at odds with reality (which is not unusual for people suffering from depression) because I have amazing friends and they've been even more amazing in the past week or so. Everyone wants to talk to me, and that makes me feel special. (Especially since I'm not terribly exciting. I'm more the opposite. Get hold of me in person and I talk a lot about my dogs. This is no doubt in part because I'm a sucker for dogs and truly adore them... but also largely because I don't have anything else to talk about.)

On the other hand... I've had a lot of latent frustration building up for months now, and it has nowhere to go. There is little or nothing I can do about what is frustrating me... aside from maybe moving to Sweden. (Which I can't do, and even if I could it would bring it's own set of problems.) And this time of year is pretty much tailor-made to make things worse.

With the hope that I'll get positive reactions and it will help mitigate the upwelling of frustration and stymied annoyance... here is a holiday meme. Well, two actually.

First, the Holiday Love Meme:

Comment with your username and people will comment anonymously with things they love and cherish about you. Stay anonymous simply because it makes the atmosphere lighter and more mysterious, kind of like a Secret Santa only with love and holiday cheer! People will wonder who these caring people are and appreciate the fact that they exist, not only the fact that they may be best friends with them. My thread is here.

Second, the 2010 Holiday Wishlist Meme

Step One

Make a post (public, friends-locked, filtered...whatever you’re comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of ten Holiday Wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun to medium to really big to fandom things. The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want. If you wish for real possible things, just make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it’s your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

Surf around your friends list (or friends of friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. Here’s the important part: If you see a wish you can grant, and it’s in your heart to do so, make someone’s wish come true. Once a wish has been granted, it will be crossed off the list. You needn’t spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn’t to put people out, it’s to provide everyone a chance to be someone else’s holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it’s your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you’ll have the joy of knowing you made someone’s holiday special.
If you are American and your House Representative voted against the Child Marriage Prevention Act last week, please make an effort to inform your neighbors and lodge a protest.
If you are Christian, please ask the head of your church to participate in the Clergy Letter Project. In simplest terms: more than 12,000 Christian clergy members have stated that there is no conflict between religion and science on the subject of evolution. The two coexist and many religious leaders embrace the fact and theory of evolution. It needs to be taught in our schools.
If you normally watch Glenn Beck, stop. Or, go one further: if you normally watch Fox News, stop. Watch the Daily Show with Jon Stewart for a few weeks instead. Better still, get your news from a reputable, unbiased source online.
Be nice to somebody just because you can. Currently, one of the easiest ways to do that is to help someone with their shopping -- it's frustrating at the best of times, and now time is running out. So help an elderly person in the grocery store, offer guidance to a confused shopper at Macy's, make suggestions to the indecisive Mom in GameStop or Barnes & Noble. Be generous. Be loving.
Make an effort to wish people you don't know a Happy Holiday rather than a Merry Christmas. Strangers could be Jewish, atheist, or followers of the Flying Spaghetti Monster -- and normal humans have no way to tell unless we ask. If they make a fuss, politely point out that you don't know them from Adam, and were simply trying to be pleasant and friendly to people of all beliefs at this time of year.
I wish I had more big wishes, but it's hard to turn negatives into positives. So on a less grand scale... I'd love it if someone would write Cloud/Tifa ~~smut~~ fanfic. We're in a serious fandom dry spell.
I've been looking for a copy of the song "Hey Boy" from Dominion Tank Police, but it's been out of print for ages. If anyone has a lead or source they can share, that's be fantastic. No SM versions of the soundtrack, though, please.
If you've read the novel Chronoliths, I'd love a review. Specifically: it sounds like an interesting novel that falls short toward the end. Is this true? Is the ending satisfying?

SM (Son May Records) is a Taiwanese company that released bootlegs of a lot of 80s/90s era anime soundtracks. Just say no to bootlegs. ^_^v

I sifted through the FFhet community and found you wrote a prompt about mako affecting pheromones - i.e. is Tifa hot and bothered for no reason? Did anyone ever write this for you?

I was actually thinking of Cloud being hyper-aware of her pheromones I think... but I like your version, too (that his pheromones re super-sexy). And nope, nobody has. I would loooooove it!

SM stands for Son May and is a 'brand' of bootleg anime soundtracks. I don't know if they're as active/prevalent as they were fifteen years ago... but the anime in question is from 1988, so odds are good that there are SM copies of it out there. SM copies were for a long time more prevalent here in the US than the originals. =(

Tae, you will be happy to know that I am currently (FINALLY) playing my way through FFVII. My thoughts so far: Cloud needs a serious spanking, and I can't wait to get to the part where he has to wear a dress. XD

I can recommend the quality of the t-shirts from that site; I bought a couple for my teenage spawn. The colours were vibrant and they washed up beautifully. The shipping was prompt and reasonable.

For more Star Wars goodies, there's also light saber (http://www.jlist.com/product/YOYA795) chopsticks; they come in every colour/hilt configuration for each of the main characters. And an R2D2 soy sauce bottle... and an Imperial Walker parody shirt... they have some really neat stuff! I've ordered from them as well, and their customer service is great.

I swear I'm still writing. Sort of. Once in a while. I've been writing original stuff lately, that is, when I haven't been up to my ass in 9 year-olds. (Community theater + Christmas Carol + KM as Mrs. Cratchit = No Creativity.) I actually had an idea for a spiritual sequel to your "Games" -- a role reversal -- but I'm having a bit of difficulty figuring out how to make it work without being too creepy. Otherwise, I've still got to write my them-getting-back-together-after-AC bit, but at this point, I have no desire to finish something that literally everyone has done. I've been so stuck on Ghost in the Shell that I haven't focused on smut ideas for CloTi. And for extra fun, I've got a Reno/Elena idea that will not leave me the Hell alone. WTF, brain? >.<

I've a friend who has a ton of anime music, I'll see if she's got the Dominion OST. Sort of doubtful, but it never hurts to ask, right?
