Bad guys are so cliche...
Jun. 9th, 2009 12:33 pmThe problem with writing a story that has plot, is that people need motivation. (Which, in my stories, usually amounts to the desire to kiss, cuddle, snuggle, have sex. On occasion it also extends to making you, the reader, laugh.)
These motivations don't work so well when applied to the villain. >.< Well... they could, but that would make for more cracky villains than for the type you should take seriously.
And villain motivations are so trite: I want to take over the world! I want revenge for something that happened to me or my mother or my cousin's best friend! I'm evil, and this is what was on the agenda today -- after breakfast, but before lunch. I'm greedy, and this plot will grant me wealth.
I'm having trouble coming up with an original(ish) motivation for my villain, so I'm thinking I'll just have to cave and make him be your standard fare.
Blehhh.
