Thank you very much! I combined ideas from several masks I found on the 'net to create Kaoru's, which helped considerably with getting the image right.
I have to agree that the ball was short-lived. That was -- in part -- because I wanted to get to the good stuff. (^.~) It was also because I really didn't want to get so involved that I'd have to make it more than a one-shot. But... I could certainly describe more of the costumes and such. It's just very hard to resist adding more world details. Misao obviously recognized something about Kaoru's mask; it's very tempting to have others at the ball do the same, and show deference or jealousy or whatnot. Which means more stuff that would go unexplained.
I'm starting to think I'll be revisiting this world anyway, so maybe I should just go back and add the things I didn't...
