A troublesome question... Judging from Bella's general reactions to Edward, we can only assume she thinks it's romantic. In the later books, she begins to get irritated when he gets a bit overprotective about letting her see his rival-in-love, but even then she tends to say something like, "I wish he wouldn't, but I know he's only doing it because he cares." And I think a lot of the other characters think it's creepy. I mean, even her parents get weirded out by how close they are and how obsessively overprotective Eddie is. Seriously. But some readers apparently find it romantic...*waves hands* It's beyond me...
