Also, even the most anti-said-bookisms peeps don't really say "NEVER" use them, just use them sparingly. I've read something like one per page is a good rule of thumb. I've certainly found said-bookisms to be distracting and really slow the pace down if used excessively. But if they are used infrequently, the strategic placement of a said-bookism can be effective.
